Replace the macOS Dock with HeyDock

Hide Apple’s Dock while HeyDock runs and get Downloads, Trash, badges, minimized windows and previews. Quit and your Dock comes back.

Updated

Turn it on

  1. Open Settings › Dock and turn on Replace the macOS Dock.
  2. HeyDock saves your Dock settings, hides Apple’s Dock and moves to the screen edge.
  3. Allow Accessibility when asked, for app badges and minimized windows.

What you get

  • Downloads: the latest 12 files, newest first, to open or drag out.
  • Trash: drop to delete, click to open, empty from the right-click menu.
  • Badges, read from the macOS Dock even for apps that aren’t running.
  • Minimized windows, to click and restore.
  • Running apps that aren’t in your mode, dimmed.
  • Window previews on hover, if you turn them on (needs Screen Recording).

Getting your Dock back

Turn the option off, or quit HeyDock: your Dock comes back exactly as it was. That also happens on logout, and after a crash on the next launch.

Place and size

In Settings › Dock › Size and place, choose small, medium or large, bottom, left or right, and Main, Active or Every display.
