Create and edit modes in HeyDock

Add, rename, reorder and delete modes, pick a symbol and colour, add apps and allowed sites, and set each mode’s wait and daily budget.

Updated

Open Edit Modes… from the HeyDock menu bar icon, or Settings › Modes.

Add or change a mode

  • Click + to add a mode, or start from a template.
  • Rename it, pick a symbol and one of eight colours.
  • Drag modes to reorder them; the order sets their shortcuts.

Apps

Drag apps in from Finder or pick them from a list. In the dock you can also drag icons to reorder them, and right-click an icon for Remove from mode or Move to mode….

Sites

List the sites that belong to the mode, like github.com. Subdomains are included. The browser extension uses this list.

Wait and budget

  • Entry delay: how long the gate waits before switching into this mode during Focus, from 0 to 60 seconds. Social starts at 15.
  • Daily budget: an allowance, like 15 minutes of Social. When it runs out, getting in takes the Strict wait until midnight.

Widgets

Each mode has its own widgets. Add them in Settings › Widgets; see Add widgets.

Use Focus and the Stay-or-switch gate

Start Focus for 25 minutes, an hour or until you stop, choose how hard the gate pushes back, and use Stay, Allow once and Add to mode.

Add widgets to a mode or the desktop

Pick from 30 widgets, give each mode its own set, put them on the desktop, and add keys for GitHub, revenue, Vercel, Linear and Sentry.
